Abstract

A novel, finite element frequency-domain formulation for scattering problems is presented. It includes vectorial edge elements, adaptive discretization of the interior domain and of the perfectly matched layers, and allows for inhomogeneous exterior domains like waveguides. The advantages for fiber-to-chip coupling problems will be demonstrated.
