Silicon Modulator Based on Coupled Microring Resonators

Abstract

We show a silicon electro-optic modulator design based on coupled microring resonators that relaxes the trade-off between optical bandwidth and power consumption in resonator-based modulators. It enables 40-Gbit/s modulation without a pre-emphasized driving signal.
