Abstract

A wide-band spot-size converter for low-loss and high alignment tolerance coupling to a single-mode fiber that also allows for on-chip wavelength splitting and routing is reported. The design, fabrication and characterization of the device are presented by referring to a regrowth-free multi-guide vertical integration in InP, to which it serves as a generic building block for an efficient wavelength-selective optical connection between functional waveguides and fiber.
