Abstract

This paper reviews recent progress made on integrated surface plasmon components and devices operating at near-infrared and visible wavelengths. Thin narrow metal stripes used as waveguides are designed into passive elements such as S-bends, Y-junction splitters, couplers, and Mach-Zehnder interferometers. Such elements are then used to achieve active plasmonic functions, such as modulation, amplification and lasing, detection, and sensing.
