Waveguide Modal Analysis Using an FFT Spectrogram Technique: Application to Mode Filters

Abstract

We describe an FFT-based spectrogram technique to evaluate the effectiveness of tapered waveguide mode filters by analyzing the measured spectral transmission. Low-loss silicon waveguide hourglass tapers are shown to eliminate all but the fundamental mode.
