Abstract

Organic single crystals with conjugated charge transfer molecular units of the paranitroaniline type exhibit quadratic nonlinear efficiency(~d2n−3) up to two orders of magnitude above LiNbO3 and higher damage threshold in bulk phase-matched configurations for "optimized"(l) crystalline structures. Such optimization is exemplified in the case of the chiral hydrogen-bonded monoclinic (P21) N-(4-Nitrophenyl)-(L)-Prolinol crystal ("NPP")(2) (Fig. l)
