Abstract

The successful analysis of the complex spectra of open-shell molecules is of high interest for the understanding both of physical properties of the species and of reactive interactions between molecules. The study of hyperfine structure (hfs) and the measurement of electric-dipole moments, for example, can give insight into the charge-density distribution in a molecule and can therefore be used to test bonding models. This paper reports spectroscopic methods of high resolution and sensitivity that were applied to alkaline-earth monohalide radicals produced either in gas-phase reactions in a cell or in a molecular beam.
