Abstract

Recent papers by L’Huillier et al.1 and Luk et al.2 demonstrated the creation of much higher ionization states than those obtained in the original investigation of doubly charged ions by Aleksakhin et al, Chin et al, and Feldmann et al. (see references in Refs. 1 and 2). In this work we present the first reported observation of multiply charged ions from Na and K atoms by the multiphoton ionization method.
