Abstract

The free-electron laser (FEL) Mechanism is fundamentally related to microwave electron tubes and even to the atomic laser. In 1971, Madey1 showed how relativistic undulating electrons and open resonators could extend the tunable advantages of electron tubes to the optical regime.
