Abstract
Laser instabilities in ring lasers are generally studied both theoretically and experimentally in only one propagation direction. Such a setup is used to avoid problems arising from spatial hole burning dye to standing wave effects. Nevertheless, the case of Fabry-Perot cavities is particularly interesting, since it includes most lasers and bistable devices.
