Abstract
We report the observation of deterministic chaos in a barium titanate self-pumped phase-conjugate mirror (SPPCM). Chaotic behavior has been observed previously in optics in the form of laser instabilities1 and in the form of instabilities in a hybrid nonlinear optical system containing both optical and electronic devices.2 We have observed deterministic chaos in a passive all-optical nonlinear optical system and have measured the dimension of the chaotic attractor.
