Abstract

TRISP1,2 is a nonlirsear optical technique by which single-shot time-resolved broadband IR absorption spectra can be recorded. For any particular selection of laser dyes and metal vapors, an IR range with a spectral width of several hundred wave numbers can usually be probed, the exact spectral location of the IR range depending on the specific dyes and vapors employed. Experiments performed to date have demonstrated the capability of TRISP over the 2-11-µm range. However, up to now, the time resolution of TRISP has been limited to ~10 ns, the pulse duration of the broadband dye laser employed. We report a recent successful extension of the TRISP technique to the subpicosecond time domain. The IR spectral region that can be probed with our present uitrafast apparatus is 2.2-2.7 µm, but extensión of subpicosecond capability to other IR rangas seems straightforward.
