Abstract
We studied the 2 + 1 muitiphoton ionization (MPI) of NH3 at 308 nm with two-photon resonance via the vibronic levels and , one of which is close to the other in diffusive molecular beam conditions. Three mass peaks, due to , , and , were observed at 308 nm. The mass peak for is very small, while those for and are much larger. A plot of logarithm ionization current vs logarithm laser power for gives a slope of 2.95 and for a slope of 2.93 at lower power and a slope of 1.8 at higher power. They demonstrate experimentally the 2 + 1 MPI mechanism.
