Abstract

This paper reports a sensitive optical interferometric technique, laser frequency division,1 for measuring and stabilizing a laser frequency by comparison in a single step to a rf standard. Current work is directed at measuring the absolute optical frequency of the i and g components of the 127I2 11-5 R(127) transition in an I2 stabilized He-Ne laser, which have previously been measured by the optical frequency synthesis chain2 and are now used to calibrate the visible optical spectrum.
