Abstract

When a 1.06-μm laser beam is focused onto a high-Z target at intensities of 1012–1014 W cm−2, a plasma is formed from which a burst of soft x rays is emitted with a conversion efficiency in excess of 10%. This burst of x rays can be used as an x-ray flashlamp to pump potential extreme UV laser systems.1,2
