Abstract
The generation of solitons by Raman scattering, long predicted by theory,1 has recently been achieved experimentally.2 As yet, however, there has been no analysis of the influence of quantum noise in the soliton statistics. This is an important aspect of the problem, since the buildup of Stokes radiation is an example of the decay of an unstable state,3 where noise plays an essential role.
