Abstract

We report the first excitation of coherent phonon-polaritons in a centrosymmetric crystal. Rutile (TiO2) was the selected material because it presents a very high electric quadrupolar susceptibility,1,2 and it is representative of a large number of compounds having the same crystalline structure.
