Abstract
Photoionization metallic vapors by soft x rays emitted from laser-produced plasmas form the starting point of several schemes of current interest for the demonstration of VUV–XUV laser emission.1,2 The inner-shell photoionization lasers in cadmium and zinc3 represent amenable systems for studying characteristics of x-ray photoionization lasers, in particular of the x-ray source itself.
