Abstract

The evolution of the phase conjugate signal in suspensions of polystyrene spheres is studied by means of degenerate four-wave mixing experiments. It has been shown1 that phase conjugation can be achieved in this Kerrlike medium via the electrostrictive effect. Autocorrelation measurements of the total detected optical signal in chopped beam conditions permit us to separate the phase conjugate signal Ec due to the array ordering contribution of the particles from the scattered light due to random concentration fluctuations.
