Abstract

We are developing an alternative quantum-mechanical approach for analyzing mixing in nonlinear optical media. Our approach is meant to follow closely the standard classical procedure in which one works in the frequency domain. The standard classical equations are spatial differential equations for the propagation of the temporal Fourier components of the field; the nonlinearities are described by nonlinear susceptibilities which couple different Fourier components.
