Abstract
The color center laser operating with a variety of alkali halide crystals has proved an excellent tunable source for spectroscopy in the near-IR spectral region (1-4 μm).1 Broadly tuned dye lasers operating primarily in the visible (450-750 nm) have been used to develop intracavity laser techniques from which are derived absorption measurements recorded with ultrahigh sensitivities.2 The design and construction of a broadband color center laser provide a new laser system for intracavity laser spectroscopy (ILS), which extends the spectral coverage into the near IR.
