Abstract

Collisions between ground-state spin-polarizsd alkali atoms and odd-A isotopes of rare gas atoms can transfer large amounts of polarization So the rare gas nuclear spin.1 A high-density sample of nuclear-spin polarized rare gas atoms would find numerous applications in measurements on fundamental interactions2 and as targets for nuclear scattering experiments.
