Photorefractive phase conjugation with orthogonally polarized pumping beams

Abstract

Stepanov and Retro1 have recently indicated that it is possible to enhance photorefractive phase conjugate reflectivity in crystals of the sillenite family by using orthogonally polarized pumping beams.1 We extend this result to other photorefractive crystals such as BaTiO3 and calculate the phase Conjugate reflectivity in the undepleted pumps approximation. We also point out that the phase conjugate reflection is polarized orthogonally to the signal, thus allowing the use of polarizers instead of Faraday cells to isolate the laser source from disturbance by phase conjugate feedback.
