Time-resolved SHG study of laser-induced disorder of solid surfaces

Abstract

Phase transitions induced by intense optical pulses have been a controversial topic because dynamic effects other than lattice heating can in principle drive the phase transition.1 However, even experimental work with 90-fs time resolution has been interpreted to be consistent with lattice heating.2
