Laser synthesis of transition metal compounds

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Laser synthesis is precipitation of fine refractory powders by pyrolytic decomposition of gaseous reactants. Laser synthesis of transition metal containing powders from volatile species using cw CO2 lasers as the energy source is described. Although few transition metal complexes combine volatility with appropriate IR absorption bands, energy could be coupled into gas mixtures using small molecules as absorbers.
