Abstract
A scheme of quasiphase matching for nonlinear optical processes with modulated nonlinear susceptibilities was proposed by Bloembergen et al. and Yariv in the early 1960s for those times when ordinary phase matching with birefringence fails. The best way to make this material is to grow transparent ferroelectric crystals with periodic laminar domains, and its half-period equals the coherence length of the nonlinear optical process.
