Abstract
We would like to point out the possibility of the core of long fibers by proper fabrication of the fiber. One possible geometry, previously used for a fiber-optic sensor,1 is shown in Fig. 1. This geometry minimizes the problems of surface currents so that field strengths > 107 V/m can be generated.2 One could use such fibers to make a number of electric field controlled devices. We will discuss second harmonic generation.
