Abstract
Recent progress in free-electron lasers (FELs) has been quite promising; coherent radiation generation can be generated at a wide range of frequencies from the microwave to the visible regions of the spectrum. Nevertheless, FEL operation in the visible and near-IR spectral regions still requires use of high-energy (>20-MeV) electron beams.
