Abstract

We have investigated above-threshold ionization (ATI), also called excess-photon ionization (EPI), in xenon using high intensity light pulses at 620 nm with a pulse duration shorter than 100 fs, the shortest used to investigate ATI so far. The aim of these investigations was to extend recent measurements, carried out with 50 ps pulses at 1064 nm [1] and with sub-picosecond pulses at 248 nm [2] and 616 nm [3], into the femtosecond regime.
