Abstract

As we know, a 633 nm iodine stabilized He-Ne laser can be used as frequency or wavelength standard according to the new definition of meter. Generally the laser is locked to some absorption component with third harmonic locking. Its frequency stability is from to 2 × 10−11 to 2 × 10−12 as sampling time from 1 s to 100 s. [1] The reproducibility of the laser is from 4 × 10−11 to 1 × 10−10 in common case. [2] This condition is not satisfactory for a good frequency standard in visible region. The reason of frequency variation may be frequency shift of the center of third harmonic signal with different line widths. [3]
