Abstract

The growing interest in coherent communication systems was based at first on the increased receiver sensitivity for long distance transmission using optical heterodyne and homodyne detection. Later on the high frequency selectivity of heterodyne receivers due to filtering in the microwave range led to the idea of coherent multichannel (CMC) distribution systems, which are now in progress [1]. At this time, the nonlinear properties of optical fibers are no more negligible, because they can limit the system performance [2]. On the other hand, optical nonlinear (ONL) fiber effects will find useful applications in communication systems.
