Abstract

In a Free electron laser (FEL), the basic process is the electron beam “bunching” : Under the influence of an undulator and a laser field of wavelength λL the electrons are gathered into small packets separated by the distance λL. The undulator period, λO, and field, BO, have to be such that λR ≃ λL, where :
