Abstract

X-ray lasers now exist with wavelengths and output powers in the 20-nm and megawatt ranges, respectively.1 Normal operation is in a single pass amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) mode. All successful experiments to date have used plasmas as the lasing medium, created by focused high power visible/IR lasers.
