Abstract

The third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility of phthalocyanines was recently reported to be large.1 The third-order susceptibility of some related materials, the metal bis-phthalocyanines (MPc2) is reported. These include YPc2 and the lanthanide bis-phthalocyanines, NdPc2, GdPc2, and LuPc2. The susceptibility of the anion LuPc2 was also measured and compared with the neutral LuPc2. All these bis-phthalocyanines are sandwich compounds with two interacting phthalocyanine rings per metal ion.
