Abstract
An efficient way to generate intense picosecond light pulses in the mid IR (1-10 μm) is by parametric generation in a nonlinear crystallike LiNbO3.1,2 In this process very intense light at frequency ω3 (pump) is converted into two other light pulses at frequencies ω1 (signal) and ω2 (idler) in the condition ω3 = ω1 + ω2.
