Abstract
There have been several proposals recently for the generation of optical superposition states in various nonlinear processes;[1] in quantum nondemolition measurements[2] and in micromaser experiments.[3] We show that microscopic superposition states can be generated in microwave cavities via the resonant interaction of Rydberg atoms with a single-mode quantized microwave cavity field. We describe the atom-field interaction by the Jaynes-Cummings model of optical resonance.[4]
