Abstract

Recently it was shown that a much stronger average cooling force can be exerted by a standing laser wave on atoms which are embedded in squezed vacuum.[1] This raises the question whether the equilibrium temperature of two level atoms in squeezed vacuum can be lowered below the normal vacuum level and in particular below the so called “Doppler limit” of kBT= Γ/2.
