Abstract

Much attention has been paid on electromagnetic whispering gallery mode (WGM), or morphology dependent resonance mode (MDR) in micro dielectric sphere because of its tremendously high Q value. Such value provides us a very low threshold laser and an optical bistable device[1] which we can operate with several photons. Dye solution droplets are very good candidates to realizing high Q cavity and have been studied extensively.[2,3] Although Q value of each mode is very large, the mode structures are very complicated. We report the light induced mode selection of micro spherical cavity laser using dye-doped polystyrene spheres with 10µm in diameter.
