Velocity-Dependent Spontaneous Emission

Abstract

It is well known that by placing an atom near a metallic or dielectric surface or inside a cavity, the strength of the vacuum fluctuations is modified, leading to enhanced and inhibited spontaneous emission. In this paper, we show that along with this dependence, the rate of spontaneous emission in a resonator may also depend on the velocity of the atom.
