Dark Travelling Waves of the Highly Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation: Analytical Solutions and Bistability Regime

Abstract

The nonlinear parabolic equation is successfully used for a description of the picosecond pulse propagation along monomode optical fibers. Such physical mechanisms as multiphoton resonances and light induced phase transitions may require the employment of a more complex nonlinearity than that used in the conventional nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We mainly concentrate on dynamics of pulses which are intensity holes against constant cw background (dark pulses).
