Abstract

Large third order nonlinearities have been observed in a variety of conjugated polymers.[1] Besides soluble modifications of polydiacetylene poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) has attracted much interest since it combines processability, good structural properties with high optical nonlinearities.[2] Using different time resolved optical techniques we compare PPV with its derivative poly(phenyl-p-pheny- lenevinylene) (PPPV) which is soluble in many solvents thereby avoiding the precursor method commonly used in thin film fabrication.
