Abstract

We consider the response of a single-mode semiconductor laser to high-speed pseudorandom word modulation of the injection current. Our analysis is based on noise driven rate equations for the number of photons I and the carrier number N inside the active layer. The injection current C(t) follows a square-wave modulation taking values Con = 1.4 × 1017 s-1 during ton and Cbias during toff for a bit “1”, and the value Cbias during the period T = ton + toff, for a bit “0”.
