Abstract

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy has proven to be a powerful tool for examining surface dynamics. Noteworthy recent examples include measurements of the relaxation of vibrational[1] and electronic[1] excitation at surfaces. Complementary to these studies have been our investigations of the dynamics of simple surface reactions. Here we report results of a timedomain study of the desorption of nitric oxide (NO) molecules from a Pd(111) surface, a system chosen as a model for a strong chemisorption interaction between a molecule and a surface.
