Abstract
Apodized apertures (AA) are used in laser physics for following purposes:[1–3] avoiding hard-edge Fresnel diffraction ripples in beam cross-section; generation diffraction limited beams without side-lobes, diminishing beam divergence in single-mode lasing by using AA inside the resonator; increasing the second harmonic conversion efficiency; compensation of pumping-inhomogenety in active elements; experiments of interaction of laser radiation with matter, which require Gaussian or super-Gaussian spatial intensity profiles, etc.
