Abstract

The ability to capture and store atoms from a vapor in a magneto-optical trap (MOT)1,2 has stimulated research in cold collisions and quantum degeneracy. These experiments requite high atom densities. We report on a new method to increase the density of atoms in a normal MOT by more than an order of magnitude.3
