Abstract

In order to verify the quantum confinement effects on optical nonlinearity in organic mesoscopic systems, theoretical and experimental studies have been conducted on a variety of conjugated molecules. Ab initio molecular orbital calculations of nonlinear polarizabilities of various types of π-conjugation with different number of repeating units could predict the confinement singularity to enhance optical nonlinearity in the conjugation of particular periodicity (linear superlattice structure).
