Abstract

Photoactive yellow protein (PYP), first isolated at the University of Arizona by Meyer,1 has many attractive features for potential applications to optical processing such as light modulators, 3D volume data storage, real-time holography, etc. To evaluate PYP’s potential, it is necessary to measure its nonlinear optical properties. In this work we present results of nonlinear absorption measurements on PYP and calculated index of refraction changes using Kramers—Kronig relations.
