Abstract
In most of the current studies of quantum optical systems, it is assumed that the density of atoms is small (≤1013 atoms/cm3). However, by using heat pipes, atom traps, or high temperature ovens, it may be possible to obtain much higher atomic densities in gaseous systems. If the density is low, then it is usually a good approximation to relate the electronic susceptibility to the molecular polarizability as χ, = Nα/e11.
