Abstract

Stable solitons are important in the dynamics of nonlinear wave systems arising in a variety of physical phenomena, including nonlinear optics. Here, the soliton is the net effect of the balance between nonlinearity and dispersion occurring in a fiber; its robustness has lead to many important applications, such as short-pulse formation, pulse amplification, and switching in fiber couplers.
