Nonlinear optical properties and determination of monolayer molecular orientation of L–B films by using SHG

Abstract

Second-harmonic generation (SHG) and third-harmonic generation (THG) have been observed by reflection from Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of secbutyl and isobutyl derivatives of 4-methyl-6-nitro-2-quino-linamine. The intensity of the signals obtained is dependent on the orientation of the molecules in the thin films.
